Autism diagnostic assessment

$1600 - $2400

Poh is an experienced autism assessor. She has worked in the disability, mental health and education sectors for over 15 years, supporting neurodiverse children, teenagers and their families. We follow best-practice clinical guidelines in our assessment procedures and collaborate closely with experienced speech pathologists to produce a comprehensive report that addresses the diagnostic criteria for Autism using a neurodiversity-affirming approach. We also consult with your child’s paediatrician to facilitate agreement about the diagnosis given.

Our assessment which generally takes place over a 6 to 8-week period, includes:

·       a comprehensive structured interview (approximately 2 hours) with you, the parent/caregiver

·       an observation session with your child using MIGDAS (approximately 2 hours)

·       an online adaptive behaviour functioning interview that you complete via remote screen administration

·       communication with the speech pathologist and paediatrician to compile a report addressing the DSM5 criteria of Autism

·       a dedicated feedback session (50 minutes) with you to go through our detailed report.

·       If required, a session of school/childcare observation by our psychologist may also be undertaken and additional charges will apply.

·       We can sometimes provide a joint assessment with a speech pathologist to complete the assessment together at one go. Please ask us about this if this is what you prefer.

·       If your child is identified as having an autistic neurotype, we will gift your child a book, The Brain Forest, written by Sandhya Menon, as well as a certificate to celebrate neurodiversity. This will help facilitate a positive identity.

Therapy for adults

$250

With a strong interest in contextual behavioural science, mindfulness, self-compassion and Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, we support you to find what matters to you and what you would like to stand for in the face of life challenges and to aspire to grow. While we cannot change the past, understanding them helps us to move forward with strength and to make an informed choice of who we want to be, now and in future. While we cannot take away our distress and emotions, we can learn to lean in and respond to them differently so that we can live the life that we want.

We provide therapy to a wide range of psychological presentations including, but not limited to:

  • Depression and other mood disorders

  • Anxiety

  • Grief and loss

  • Major life transitions

  • Spirituality

  • Autistic and ADHD burnout

  • Neurodivergent identity and ongoing support for neurodivergent women

  • Cultural identity and intersectionality

  • Parenting

Evolutionally speaking, we all want our children to be happy and grow well. However, it is not easy to grow up in this fast-paced era. Children and adolescents experience setbacks and may have difficulties regulating their big emotions as they grow up. Often, the changes in their mood, behaviour and relationships are signs that they may be struggling to cope and need additional help.

Children and adolescents do not live in isolation. They are supported by their family systems and the community that they interact with. We aim to provide a therapeutic space for the family to have therapeutic play and conversations to help understand and resolve problems. This can help to make positive changes in the communication and interactions within the family systems. As a result, there are deeper connections among family members.

We also provide one-on-one therapy with the individual child and/or adolescent. At Blossom Care Psychology, we understand that therapy needs to be tailored to their developmental level and focus on supporting our children and adolescents to develop into flexible, adaptive and resourceful individuals so that they can face challenges in their lives. Children and adolescents are not small adults. We do not treat their difficulties the same way as we treat our adult clients. With some help and nurturance, young people can often find what’s important to them and make good use of their strengths to overcome their life challenges. That is where growth happens.

We provide therapy using strategies drawn from sound evidence-based therapy approaches such as DNA-v, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), attachment theory, polyvagal theory, mindfulness, self-compassion, family systems therapy and play therapy.

We can support children and adolescents with the following concerns (but are not limited to):

  • worries or anxiety.

  • persistent anger or behaviour difficulties

  • difficulties with emotion regulation

  • adjustment to major life changes or transitions

  • social and communication skills

  • school-related distress (e.g., bullying, school refusal)

  • grief and loss

  • low self-esteem

  • relationship difficulties with siblings or parents

  • gaming addiction
